Birth of a Skullet

Sure we all know that Gallagher is a genius. From his outlandish vaudevillian shtick, to his insightful hippy-babble, Gallagher leaves no realm of human experience untouched. But few people realize the full extent of Gallagher's impact on the American psyche. His wit and inventiveness are largely responsible for this phenomenon, but more than anything else, Gallagher has made the skullet a household word, and consequently changed forever the way we look at hair, and ourselves.

Although some point out correctly that David Crosby, of Legendary Rock and Roll band, Crosby, Stills and Nash is documented as the first patron of the skullet, statistics show that the skullet did not achieve widespread saturation until Gallagher popularized it.

The most fascinating paradox is that despite Gallagher's prolific genius in other areas, the skullet was purely unintentional. Gallagher has been quoted as saying he was actually going for a Yul Brenner look, but during a whirlwind of produce smashing engagements he was simply unaware that, "something was growing back there." Which explanation accounts for 87 % of skullet cases.

A group of celebrities including David Crosby, Michael Bolton, Peter Boyle, Terry Gilliam and Al Leong are planning an all star tribute to Gallagher and the skullet, which is planned to air on FOX this fall. Check local listings.
