The Real Slim SFLB

As an artist known for his controversial lyrics and aggressive personality, Eminem is no stranger to media criticism. However, after receiving a Country Music Award for Best New Artist and following his arrest at a post-awards-ceremony party at a Nashville nightclub, Eminem is facing a different sort of criticism. Noting Mr. Mathers' misogynistic, and even homophobic lyrics, as well as his history of domestic violence, country music critics are questioning Eminem's alignment with the popular rap culture and are claiming him as one of their own.

"His music is clearly rap. But the country music influence is undeniable. We in the country music industry are ready to embrace an artist like that M & M fellow," commented Dwight Yoakam after presenting Eminem with the Best New Artist Award at the Country Music Awards.

Tim McGraw praised Slim Shady saying, "Bar fights, bitch slappin', and a do-it-yourself hometown attitude. Like it or not Mr. Shady, you belong with us." Tim McGraw then proceeded to perform a remake of Eminem's popular "The Real Slim Shady" with the altered lines, "Will the real Slim Sflby please stand up, get a mullet cut."

Despite these artists' welcoming into country music circles, Eminem remained critical of the other artists present. During his acceptance speech Eminem performed a piece of his famous freestyle rap implying that the Dixie Chicks were involved in various sexual indiscretions with Country great Willy Nelson.

Following Eminem's arrest and acceptance of the CMA award, long-time friend and producer Dr. Dre defended Eminem's position in the rap community claiming, "Em ain't no mullet. And Napster is taking food from my children's mouths."
