Silliman and Hale devised a system whereby digitally rendered mullets were added to celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez. The new photos were then judged by nearly 3,000 participants on a scale of one to ten. "Ms. Berry was the only subject whose already high score of 9.6 actually increased to a whopping 9.8 with the mullet," said Hale. On average, subjects like Affleck and Prince Williams, lost 6 to 7 full points due to the mullet. One notable exception is former President Clinton whose gracious 7.5 remained unchanged despite the mullet modifications.
Photos of subjects other than Berry's were deemed either, "too offensive," or "potentially dangerous to their subjects' careers," and were not released by Silliman and Hale.
